American Tribal Bellydance: An Introduction   Spirit, Mind & Body
American Tribal Bellydance is a fusion of dance influences from India, the Middle East, North Africa and Spain. Its beauty and power are the result of a format of structured and synchronized, yet flexible, group improvisation. By using a vocabulary of simple steps and gestures, and developing an almost magical rapport, the dancers build on the music and work together in a truly "tribal" effort to create a mesmerizing presentation. In this one-and-a-half-hour workshop, Christine will teach the proper posture, stretches and exercises for Bellydance, a moving meditation to use before dancing and some of the basic moves of Tribal Style Bellydance, leading students in a simple, improvised choreography. NOTE: This is a great intro to the six-week series which will begin in January.
